Hi!

I have Windows XP Media Center. In Dxdiag.exe is a
Microsoft Midi Mapper listed I want to play sound files.

How to do that.

Thank you;
Steve Miller

It is hard (for me) to understand you.

Do you have a problem at all with playing sound files?
If so, any sound files (system sounds, MP3, etc.), or just MIDI-files (that
do not contain sound themselves, merely instructions to play sounds)?

As far as I can see, the MIDI Mapper in Windows-versions after 3.11 is
nothing more than the drop-down list to choose the device that you want to
use by _default_ to _play_back_ MIDI-files.
(Control Panel | Sounds and Audio Devices | Audio | MIDI_music_playback)

Your system is likely to have a sound card. Unless your computer is a
notebook, this card is likely able to play MIDI-files, and thus should
appear in that drop-down list. Otherwise you are likely to notice a
MIDI-device called "Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth" there.

What problem remains?
