MIDI device

I recently purchased a computer with windows xp. I would
like to use a MIDI keyboard (piano) with the computer.
How do I connect my MIDI keyboard to the computer. I
have tried and have received error messages that refer to
no MIDI device installed on computer. Please reply.
 
What sound card do you have? Have you installed the sound card driver,
including the joystick port?
Does your keyboard support GM (General Midi)?
