Hi group,

I don't have a middle mouse button, so I'm looking for freeware to
simulate it (ie, middle click when I press both mouse buttons
simultaneously).
I found "Cool Mouse" but this has become shareware somewhere in the
past. It isn't on the Pricelessware list either.

So, any ideas?

Thanks!

Wald

Wald ....

Using Win98, the middle mouse button can be simulated
by pressing both left and right buttons simultaneously ....

In the Control Panel, MS labels the mouse buttons as ....

1 .... Left
2 .... Middle
3 .... Right

Control Panel .... Mouse .... Buttons ....

In dropdown menu 2, select .... Middle Button

I looked at the Mouse section in the control panel as well, since I
remember settings like this too. But alas, win2k here, and I don't
see any setting like that, not even a "Buttons" section...

Thanks for the reply,

Bummer ....

The mouse I use is a generic wheel mouse
and I haven't installed mouse hardware/software
other than what came loaded on this Compaq Win98 machine
when we got it 4.5 years ago ....

I use win98, and like wald, I don't get the option of a 3rd button, maybe
your wheelmouse triggered something...

I know Powerpro can do the press two buttons at once for a middle button
trick, but I found it a bit too powerful and teckernickel to keep

Mike ....

Maybe the Control Panel/Mouse configuration software
I have for Win98 is unique to Compaq ....

I've been laboring under the now apparent misconception
that everybody's Win98 Mouse config looked like this ....

Yup, that's the one I get on my system too.

Actually, it's just a driver thing. The mouse is a plain boring two
button mouse (can't get any more basic than this) from Logitech.
I just did a test with Logitech MouseWare (downloadable from their
site) and using that, it's possible to interpret a two-button
simultaneous click as a middle-button click.

But then again, this requires the MouseWare software being loaded
into memory, and it takes about 1,5 MB. Not that I'm short of memory,
but I don't like spending 1.5 MB for simple middle clicking, so I
removed the damn thing again.

Anyway, I guess I'll live with two buttons now. I just thought I'd
throw in the information for other people who might be interested.

Wald

Wald ....

A few replies from another NG also confirm the Win98 Mouse config
is available in several variations, some with and some without
the Middle-Button configurability ....

I feel lucky to have the option to configure simultaneous Left-Right clicks
as a simulation for the Middle-Button click of a 3-Button-Mouse,
since a few weeks ago I installed the Squeak IDE for SmallTalk programming
and that environment uses the Middle-Button quite often ....
