Hello All,
I just purchased a Microtek 9800XL flatbed scanner with the
transparency adapter and have been having an awful time of it. First,
I cannot save the the profiles created in the ICC Profiler that came
with the scanner. I can scan the reflective or transparency target,
but when I attempt to save the profile, I get "kdsinput Internal
Error." The tech support at Microtek's solution is to download new
target profiles from Kodak, but this does not solve the problem and as
a matter of fact, I do not see how it can. While I understand
kdsinput.dll is a component from Kodak Digital Science (if I am wrong,
please accept my apologies), it is not on their ftp site for
downloads with the definitions.
Calibration aside, it now takes up to ten minutes for Photoshop
Elements to to open the ScanMaker Pro 6.13 window when I go to import
an image. I am using Photoshop Elements as this is the software that
came with the unit and I am trying to keep this installation as
"clean" as possible and using just what came in the Microtek box,
atleast until both problems are resolved. This loading problem is
getting progressively worse. Initially, things loaded quite well. I am
on probably my tenth installation of all software since Thursday.
Microtek has suggested various uninstalls and reinstalls in Safe Mode
and following their instructions, I uninstalled all (including
fullblown PS 6.0) but the bare bones.
I am running a Pentium 4 at 1.6 ghz, 256 megs of ram with roughly
forty gigs of harddrive space available. I have the scanner connected
via the USB port. We plan to use the scanner for 4x5 transparencies
and also for tabloid-sized reflective artwork. I really want to make
the 9800XL work, but I am getting close to throwing in the towel.
The scanner came with a Firewire interface card or I could install a
SCSI interface on my computer.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks!
