I have a home wireless network setup with 3 different
computers. It is a comcast internet connection, through
the modem comcast provides, hooked to a Mirosoft wireless
router.
Box 1: A Dell desktop running Windows XP home (6 mos old)
Box 2: A Dell Inspirion running Windows XP pro (old box,
new XP install)
Box 3: A dell Inspirion running Windows XP home (3 mos old)
Now the problem. This network seems to be terribly
unstable. Box 3 continues to have troubles connect to the
network. When I attempt to run the "Repair" function, I
receive the error "TCP/IP not enabled for this
connection". Now that would be fine if Box 3 never
connected but that is not the case. Sometimes it connects,
sometimes it doesn't and I am certainly not changing any
TCP/IP settings.
One thing I have noticed on Box 3 that does not show up on
Box 2 is a "Mac Bridge mini portal" whatever that is plus
another "Broadband Connection".
A friend has wireless network, only his uses the D-Link
router and adapter. His network is very similiar - 3
boxes, a desktop and 2 laptops. In fact, his second laptop
is identical to my Box 3 (dell inspirion 8600). His
network is stable. His Box 3 has no mac bridge, nor
broadband connection. One of my problems is my network was
set up for me so I am not sure if some of the selections
made during the install caused all these problems. But
right now I am looking at the Microsoft Router/Adapter and
the software as the culprit.
So, anyone have any ideas where I can go from here? I
would say I am very fluent with PC's though networking is
not something I know a lot about. I am completely at a
loss so any help would be greatly appreciated
