microsoft's sidewinder force feedback pro

just upgraded to windows xp. This does not support the
joystick listed. Why? Is there a download to get
recognition? When I try to get help from Microsoft,
their reply is that this joystick's ID number is not
compatable with the country purchased--ie, USA? How can
microsoft not recognize their own products?? HELP
 
Software for game port controllers cannot be installed on Windows XP because
the vxd format in which they're written is obsolete. Plug the device in,
then go into Control Panel/Game Controllers and "Add" the Microsoft
SideWinder (auto detect). Windows XP will install the proper drivers. You
need to rely on in-game Options to be able to program the buttons, though.
