In the past 6 or so months I've gone through 2 optical MSmice. The left
button breaks. I've had regular ballmice that have lasted for years with
the only problem being a dirty ball.
Is it just MS making flimsey buttons for their mice? After the last one
broke I switched over to Logitech optical mouse.
Anyone else have a problem with the optical MSmouse or am I just having a
run of bad luck with them.
Two people use the computer, one just plays games and probably uses the
button the mosst and the other mainly surfs the net.

Also, how can I adjust the mouse so that it doesn't have to double click.
I've had people tell me I could go in and change it but haven't found where
yet.

I am going on 2 years with an MS optical with no degredation in performance.
Maybe you should lighten up on your index finger. My wife over-uses the left
button. She clicks on print...if it doesn't respond right away, she clicks
two or three more times. Uses lots of ink and paper.

If you are handy with a screwdriver and soldering iron, you can
replace the button's microswitches for ~ 25 cents each. If it's the
plastic, cracked, I imagine superglue would bond this plastic rather
well.

You can change the double-click to single-click by choosing
"View"->"Folder Options"-> Customize (from any open window). At
least that's how it's done on some version of windows if not all... I
forget which and don't know what version you're using.

You might see if Microsoft will replace it... some details at the
following:

All you have to do is call them and give them the number off the bottom of
the mouse. They will send a replacement free of charge :-)

Microsoft makes crap software and their hardware isn't much better.
Just their ad campaign of "The Software-Hardware Advantage" that they
put on all their mouse/keyboard boxes makes me sick. Logitech is a much
higher quality manufacturer and that's what I use (out of convenience
and principle).

That's just not true. Microsoft hardware is generally well-designed and
well-manufatured, at least as well as the competition. True, their software
is hit-and-miss and their corporate behaviour is among the worst in the
world, but I've never had any problems with the Microsoft harware that I've
used.

And the whole double-click thing is a folder option isn't it? Certainly in
Win98 it's (from an Explorer window) Go -> Folder Options -> Custom. I'd
imagine it's somewhere vaguely similar in other MS OSs.
