Microsoft: XPe QFE page is out-of-date

Wow - that hurts!

I've been assuring people that our image has all of the
latest QFE's in it. Looks like for the last month,
several QFE's have been released but were never included
on the XP Embedded downloads page. One QFE replaces the
kernel, and one replaced ntdll.dll - so I'd say these are
pretty significant releases.

Thanks for sending this out, Mark. You may very well be
a life (or at least job) saver :)

To MS, can you PLEASE give us a single point of reference
to come for QFE's that will be reliable and up-to-date?

Mark's URL (reposted below) is actually going to be up to date sooner
than the ms.com site. That's because the Download Center is
automatically updated as part of the QFE authoring process, while the
ms.com site is a manually updated page. We do out best, but
ms.com\embedded is a big site to manage, and we share that site with the
WinCE guys - just like QFE's, things get queued and done as soon as
possible. We do try to keep the community up to date on new QFE's by
posting here.

If you want up to the minute QFE lists, use the Download Center URL
below (sort by date to see the most recent). If you want more
complete info but slower updates, head to ms.com.

Don't know what is wrong with this link:

embed ded.asp

Latest QFE is dated September 4, 2003 to me this look current enough.

I just checked: Comparing with the Downloads site, apart from the
relatively new

- MS03-039: Buffer Overrun In RPCSS Service Could Allow Code Execution
(11 Sep 03)

the MSDN link above also misses

- Domain login delays using MUI on XPE runtimes (824055) (04 Sep 03)
- MS03-013: Buffer Overrun in Windows Kernel Message Handling Could Lead
to Elevated Privileges (02 Sep 03)

Not really useful, either.

Now I'm too disillusioned,

It would be good if MS posted to this NG when new QFE's available.

Thanks,
Slobodan

So now there appears to be 3 URLs to get QFE Updates for XPE:

The most uptodate (according to Jon(MS))
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...1E-B967-7E7C17C1B4AE&freetext=&DisplayLang=en

The next most uptodate:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/default.asp?url=/downloads/list/winxpembedded.asp

The least uptodate (which certainly I used to rely on and check regularly as
it seems others did to):
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/Embedded/xp/downloads/updates/default.asp

All a bit confusing!!

Some observations:

1. All the updates have the statement - "YOU MAY NOT PROVIDE THIS UPDATE OR
THE LOCATION (URL) OF THIS UPDATE TO ANY THIRD PARTIES." - What is this
statement trying to say? If it means what it says, what's the Device Update
Agent for?

2. Some of the updates have never been anounced on the NG so the only way
they are going to be picked up is by users polling the download site - not
ideal!

3. The link to the details of the QFE Rollup (824704) doesn't work - it
would be nice to know what problems have been fixed by this QFE to know if
it supercedes a "home grown" component.
