Microsoft is planning to release a free online service which will allow users to access a Microsoft Works type package for free. This so called "Web 2.0" development in recent years has proved popular with google, and Microsoft seems to follow soon after.
Google already has an online word processor and spreadsheet service, and the Microsoft versions will no doubt be similar in functionality.
Whether or not the applications will prove popular is another thing entirely!
