Microsoft works task launcher

I have a couple of floppys that I have tried to open, but
can't. I saved a few files to floppy using Microsoft Word
Processor, but when I try to read them Task Launcher
opens & I can't read the files. The ones that were
downloaded to works Spreadsheet & Works Database open, so
I know that my disk are fine. I have Windows XP (which is
new) & am wondering if I'm doing something wrong, since I
had no problem with our other computer which had Windows
ME. I tried clicking on Find Files or Folder on Task
Launcher but it keeps coming up "Cannot Launch in Find in
Files Applet" Please help. Thanks

The word processor in Works and MS Word are two different applications.
Some Works packages include both of these programs. Some have only the
Works word processor.

It sounds like your old files were created with Word. The Works word
processor cannot open and read most Word files.

You don't mention if you're using a new Works package or if this is the
same package that you used before. In either case, check to see if Word was
included with what you have. If it is, run Works setup again. The setup
screen will ask if you want to repair, change or remove. Select Change and
choose to add MS Word. If not included in the setup options, check the CD
for text file that gives directions on installing Word.

If you do not need to edit your old Word documents, you could download a
Word Viewer from Microsoft. The viewer will let you open and read Word
files but disallows making any changes to the document.

TIP: If your Word file is on a floppy, copy it to the hard drive and then
open it. When working on a Word file, a temporary document copy is created
in the same folder as the original. If there is not enough room on the
floppy for the temp file, the document will fail to open.
