microsoft work

i have have several past microsoft workproject on fopply disks and on cd
from my 98 windows ,me , windows , 2000 .i use the the to make my life
joural , my family joural , my cd inventory they will not open on my xp
what software do i need , and is there a free works suite download
 
Works in not now nor has it ever bee "FREE". You must purchase a copy of
Works and install it on your computer if you wish to contine using it. The
version that came with your previous computer is an OEM version and cannot
be installed on a different machine.

If you made it in Works, you'll need software that opens Works files -
no there is not free works suite - you have to pay for it - but if you
have an old PC and load a distro of Linux, you can load OpenOffice and
open you old Works files - and that'll be free - just a little work on
your part.

Ummm they make a version of open office for WINDOWS too.

Once again, you need to find out what you're talking about
before posting misleading information. Just because an
application is installed by a manufacturer or reseller
doesn't mean that it's an OEM version. Although this is
most often the case, it ain't always. When in doubt, read
the EULA.
 
I have yet to see any OEM computer that comes with works installed that is
NOT an OEM version. I have never seen a computer that ships with separate
discs for Works or Works Suite. If you could perhaps enlighten me and cite
an example of a computer that ships with a separate set of disks for Works
or Works suite, then I will stand corrected. But until you or someone else
can provide proof to the contrary, I will stand by what I said.

I hate to disturb your blissful ignorance, but Gateway, for
one, has been shipping a separate Works Suite package with
some of its computers for at least three years that I know
of. Also, just because you haven't seen it doesn't mean
it doesn't exist. Lots of local, individually owned
computer stores will sell retail software packages along
with a new computer and will often install the software
prior to delivery. Often this will include even the
operating system.
