Eva

Greetings!
We just moved from Wisconsin to Newberry, Florida and all
of my cds are still in the moving van in Illinois
somewhere, including my furniture. Well no one here can
help me get my furniture, but is there anyway someone can
help me get Word back? My pc crashed just before our move
and I got most of it back on my hard drive, but I didn't
have the time to upload my Office. I don't need the whole
program, just Word. If anyone out there can be of
asisstance, I'd be very greatful. Perhaps there's a file
that can be sent via e-mail for Microsoft Word?
Sincerely,
Eva aka (e-mail address removed)

You can't install Word from a 'File'. The Office files amount to about
300mb - hardly the sort of thing to be e-mailed!
You'll have to wait until the discs arrive.

Sorry about your problem. Moving is so disruptive. No one needs added
complications such as that.

Unfortunately, leaving aside for the moment the fact that there are legal
problems involved in providing even a subset of files for a copyrighted
piece of intellectual property such as Microsoft Office, there are other
problems.

Extricating the files needed to install just Word from any version of Office
is not a trivial task. You have to know which ones Word uses. Once that has
been achieved, there is the matter of the file sizes. Just the main
executable file for WinWord is 11,766 KB.

If one had the MS Word CD, rather than the entire Office suite, it would
eliminate the first part of the problem but not the second. The copyright
issue remains.

The possession of a license to use the program, which is what you actually
purchase, is not a licence to distribute it or any part of it.

However, all this withstanding, there is possibly good news. Contact
Microsoft. You can get a toll-free number from Telco information or the
Microsoft web page. They might be able to provide a replacement CD. There
might be a minimum charge to cover costs.

Let us know.
