Each time I attempt to open Microsoft Word I get the message, Microsoft has encountered a problem and is shutting down. This just started yesterday. Can someone tell me how to start to solve this problem?

Hi

A couple of fixes you could try:

1. With MS Word closed, search Windows Explorer for a file called normal.dot - when you have found it, delete it and try MS Word again.

2. Open MS Word and go to Help>Detect and Repair...

Failing those you might like to try one of the MS Word news groups.

If it's a Word document, it should be a *.doc file.
Right click a *.doc file | Properties | General tab |
Opens with: says what? | If not Word | Change button |
Scroll down and find Microsoft Word for Windows | Click it |
Check the  Always use the selected program to
open this kind of file | OK | Apply | OK
