The Windows XP operating system does not include the
Microsoft Word program. You may purchase Microsoft
Word at virtually any store that sells computer software.

Microsoft Works contains a crippled version of Word.
They are similar, but not identical.
I tried to split my text into 2 columns, it wouldnt let
me.

Works can certainly handle 2 columns. In the Answer
Wizard, type "columns" and press Search. You should
find a variety of relevant topics.
I tried to insert a drop cap by going in format then
drop cap but drop cap aint there,

Sorry, I don't see any drop cap support in
Works 7.0 (MS would be happy to sell you
a copy of Word that can do that :-).
You could tediously get a somewhat similar
effect by inserting a text box, putting the
single, enlarged letter in the text box,
formatting the text box so it has 0 internal
margins and so that the surrounding text
flows around it.
i tried using word art
but cannot get it whats happenin?

That's another tedious route to go. Insert
Picture -> Word Art, then type the
captial letter, close the pop-up window.
Then select the newly inserted word art
box, resize to taste. Then Format -> Object
and select "tight" or "square".

As far as I can tell, the Works word processor
doesn't really give you full access to "frames",
which I think is what you need to have full
control over how a drop cap works.
Anybody please advise.

microsoft.public.works.win may be a better place
for further questions on the Works word processor.
