whatever program I'm in, my font is always times new roman
and 10 pt. (unless of course I change it when I'm in a
particular document). Where do I go to permantently change
these fonts whenever I open a new document or send an e-
mail from Outlook?

In Word, click on Format / Font...

Select the font you want then click the Default... button.

this changes the default template normal.dot and all future
word docs will use the font so selected or any other changes
you might make

I would back up or save that file elsewhere in case you ever
want to go back
