Microsoft Word tries to access internet

I am a 60 year old novice trying to figure out what is wrong with my
computer. According to McAfee Security Suite Logs, it has blocked
Microsoft Word from accessing the internet. Why would Microsoft Word
ever want to access the internet? Could this be a keylogger at work?

I believe I have a keylogger on my machine, by the way - AOL says it
is blocking To-Spy-On v2.6 in their virus scan logs. I have not tried
to delete the keylogger yet, as I am still trying to figure out a way
to determine how it got there, if it is really there. I have been
trying to follow several suggestions from other posters, but I have
not found out what/where/why/how yet on the KeyLogger, but I remain
determined to win the battle with my PC and whoever is trying to
monitor me.

I deeply appreciate help from anyone - chances are, whoever you are,
you know more about this than I do.

MS Word may try to access the internet if you supply a URL or if you use MS Outlook and use
word as the email editor.

Reverse your priority.
If you have a Keylogging Trojan remove it first then figure out how it got there.


Download MULTI_AV.EXE from the URL --
http://www.ik-cs.com/programs/virtools/Multi_AV.exe

To use this utility, perform the following...
Execute; Multi_AV.exe { Note: You must use the default folder C:\AV-CLS }
Choose; Unzip
Choose; Close

Execute; C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT
{ or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS }

NOTE: You may have to disable your software FireWall or allow WGET.EXE to go through your
FireWall to allow it to download the needed AV vendor related files.

C:\AV-CLS\StartMenu.BAT -- { or Double-click on 'Start Menu' in C:\AV-CLS}
This will bring up the initial menu of choices and should be executed in Normal Mode.
This way all the components can be downloaded from each AV vendor's web site.
The choices are; Sophos, Trend, McAfee, Kaspersky, Exit this menu and Reboot the PC.

You can choose to go to each menu item and just download the needed files or you can
download the files and perform a scan in Normal Mode. Once you have downloaded the files
needed for each scanner you want to use, you should reboot the PC into Safe Mode [F8 key
during boot] and re-run the menu again and choose which scanner you want to run in Safe
Mode. It is suggested to run the scanners in both Safe Mode and Normal Mode.

When the menu is displayed hitting 'H' or 'h' will bring up a more comprehensive PDF help

I suggest you check these sites:

for some background on the keylogger you've got. The first link gives
some good info as to where the logger could be residing on your system.

Grab a freeware or shareware virus/adware scanner off
http://www.tucows.com if you don't have one already, and personally, I'd
sever my internet connection until I got the issue figured out.

It seems this logger is sold commercially. There's nobody close to you
that might feel the need to spy on you while you're on the computer, is
there? If not then someone must've wrapped it in another program that
was downloaded/executed previously.
