I have two computers. My old one is running Windows 98
and my new one is running Windows XP Professional. I
have Office 2000 installed on both. When I run MSWORD on
my xp machine, the "form text" does not work but it does
work on the 98 machine. Both are running the same
version of Word. I have a form from work that I need to
fill in text on and it works at work running windows 2000
but not on my home computer (XP)

Does anyone know if Windows XP Professional has problems
with Office 2000 orWord 2000 and if so, how to fix it?

Thanks,

Paul

Hi Paul,

I'm not quite sure what you mean by "form text"? Can you
describe what you do (and can't do) a bit more? And give the
exact wording of any error messages you may be getting?

Also: what's are your macro security settings in Word on the
installation that's giving you problems?

Cindy,

I am not getting an error message. I am filling out a form from work which
has embedded "form fields" which allows you to type in the box on the form
and the box expands to accomodate your input. I filled it out partially at
work using word and saved it to a floppy to finish at home and my home
computer which runs xp pro won't allow me to continue. It opens the
document and in the expandable "field form" box, instead of the info I had
entered, it just says, "TEXT FORM" and will not allow me to do any more work
on the document. However, if I take the same file back to work, where I am
running the same version of MSWORD but on the windows 2000 operating system,
the data appears in the box and allows me to continue filling in the
document.

Ah, what you're seeing is the { FORMTEXT } field code! Close the form. If
you don't have another document open, open one. Press Alt+F9. Then reopen
the form. Alt+F9 toggles the field display from field codes to field results
(or vice versa). You can also do this by changing the setting in Tools |
Options | View or right-clicking and choosing Toggle Field Codes, but you
can't do any of these in a locked form.
