You *must* provide more information.

You stated, "... but after it crashed..they went away..." --> but you did
not elaborate much. I will assume some stuff and you tell us if I am right.

Assumption 1:
Your computer was working "okay", but there was some incident and the
machine did not work the same anymore. You either did a repair installation
or a full clean install (or restore from a third-party application from the
manufacturer of your PC) or some other means of fixing it.. Then you
noticed that your start mentu did not have all the applications it used to.

Assumption 2:
Your computer was working "okay", but there was some incident and the
machine did not work the same anymore. You did some "cleanup" or got
someone to help you cleanup and it began working okay, however you could no
longer find the applications in your start menu, in your quick-launch bar or
on your desktop.

If either of those is true.. Check in "Program Files" for the installed
applications and create new shortcuts manually. Or, better yet for you,
install the applications from the original installation media for Office
(Word/Excel.)

If not - well, I could sit here and guyess what you mean all night... But it
would be easier if you just provided the information. =)

Yes. I can explain this.

Windows XP (Professional or Home) does not "come" with any products other
than.. Well, the Operating System and the extras that freely come along,
which does not, never has, included Microsoft Office or any of the
individual products of Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.)

You must install Word and Excel seperately... Just like you would have to
install Adobe Photoshop, Netscape, Roxio Easy CD & DVD Creator, Symantec
Antivirus, McAfee Antivirus, Ahead Nero, etc...

Your own statement: "my friend cleaned the whole entire drive and wiped
everything out...this of course made everything go away" -- was more true
than you thought. =)

Greetings --

Neither the Microsoft Office application suite, nor any of its
individual component applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access,
Outlook, etc.), have _ever_ been "part" of *any* Windows operating
system. They are, and always have been, separate applications, that
must be purchased and installed separately.

Presumably, you still have the original installation media, so you
can reinstall the applications.

have been there myself many times. After you crashed
did you try to reinstall your programs? Did you loss a
lot of memory? Do you have a boot disc of the original
programs on 3 1/2? put your boot disc in after you turn
off your machine. RESTART, allow the machine to work by
itself - after completion and you have your WIN back
remove the disc. Turn off the machine and check it.
If this fails. Do you have WINDOWS CD? Insert it into
the port. Shut down the machine with RESTART, it will
restart with options. Mark the option that checks for
missing programs, do not "erase" everything.
What may have happed is that after you crashed you tried
to reinstall these items and the machine saw this as a
new set up and PARTIONED YOUR CABINETS. On your machine
now you probably have two partioned Windows running.
Boot will only go to one.
Attempt to contact your manufacturers help line and have
them walk you through. Good luck.
