Microsoft word cannot works: COMMAND IS UNAVAILABLE..someone pls h

Hi.
I've just got a new computer,and recently,something went wrong with the
Microsoft Word. You get into the page,but the problem is,you can't type
anything. There's nothing wrong with the keyboard,rather,it's always
stated,"This command is unavailable because the document is locked for edit."
I don't understand whats wrong,or what it meant by locked for edit.This
computer is a shared one.My mum often uses the Microsoft Excel to work out
her office list,and i used it to download homework worksheets from my school
website to get it print. I checked the microsoft website,and it stated that
this command came about,because someone using the computer had locked the
document for security reasons,and i tried the HELP page.Still,im unable to
unlock it. What am i to do? This is a new computer. My dad will kill me if he
knows. Could someone pls tell me what is going on?
