I just bought a new computer with Windows XP. I had saved work I was completing in Microsoft Word 6.0, and put in on diskettes, 30 in all. Now my new computer has Microsoft 7.0, and can't completely open the diskettes where I can access the work from Word 6.0. Is there some way I can configure my computer to open these diskettes? Please help! I am gettting behind in my work! Thanks.

MS Word is a separate program or part of MS Office. MS Works is a cut down
version of Office and will not open Word files directly for editing. I would
think you need to purchase a copy of Word that is suitable for XP. XP will
open the diskette and you can copy the files to your new PC but you need
Word installed to edit them and carry on with your work.

Works 7.0 can save to Word 6.0 format, so I am going to guess that it
can read that format also.

Copy all these files to a folder on the hard disk. Read them from Works
Word processor from there. If it doesn't work, then maybe you simply
needed to install the "driver" to make it work. Check you Works CD.

Do not try to open the files direct from the floppy disk. This can only
lead to possible corruption. It is always a bad idea to read/write from
floppy disks direct from applications (esp. Office and Works).

Hope this is useful to you. Let us know.

Sorry, but Microsoft Works is not a cut-down version of Office. It is a
completely different product. Microsoft words will open Word files
direct for editing. It is not necessary for OP to purchase a copy of
Word. They can use the copy of Works that they have. They could even
use OpenOffice (www.openoffice.org) which is free.

OK I stand corrected.
