Got a question try to find out what this and how to fix it .... I would like
to know what WAS stands for? About once a day my system goes in like it
searching for something and you can't do nothing and the only defence I have
is to shut the computer down hard and it might be AVAST Virus that might be
doing that so I'm going to remove that. I do have the ultimate version of
Vista with a average score of 4 and the video card needs to be upgraded to
bring it to a 5 ... So if you know what WAS is could you tell me.... Thanks
David

You cannot save a Word doc directly to a usb drive. You must save to your
hard drive first, then copy the file to the usb drive. Word has too many
things going on and needs access to the Word program itself, so will only
allow saving to a hard drive.
Ignore that silly Windows Experience Score--it's nigh to useless. A 4 is a
terrific score!

Not so.

I save Word 2000 documents to USB flash drives and USB external drives with
not trouble using Windows Vista Home Premium.

Yeah I think you posted this to the wrong discussion ;)

Either way you can save directly to a USB drive, you're very far off there.

As for the original poster.

I believe the WAS is Windows Anti-Spyware aka Windows Defender.

What's the specs on that system?

Wrong on all counts.

You *shouldn't* save anything from within Word directly to a 3.5 floppy
because of the risk of something getting trashed. But you can and
unfortunately too many people still do.

Why on earth do you think one must save a Word doc to the hard drive and
then copy to a USB drive? I work with Word docs all the time from USB;
create, open, save, whatever.

Not true. So -way- not true.
