SP4 caused my PC to become unbootable. For a long list of problems with SP4
check out http://www.w2knews.com/anecdotes.htm . As far as I am concerned
they do need to do something about it.
I am sure there are similar lists with the 3 prior Service Packs. I'm not
sure if the issues with SP4 are any more widespread than their previous SPs.
My machine had serious issues with SP3 but SP4 has been flawless for me.
You're probably right - SP3 runs fine here so I was not motivated to
research its problems. SP4 conflicts with my Nvidia video driver and Etrust
antivirus. If I uninstall either the video driver or the antivirus program,
the PC boots ok with SP4. I can't keep both of them installed and boot with
SP4 - just get a blue screen.
I guess the lesson is to make a disk image just prior to installing any
service pack so that if things go bad it is easy to recover.
I tried two with the same results. One was from the Dell web site and it's
for the GeForce 2 MX card. The other was the latest universal driver from
the Nvidia web site. Keep in mind that for me these drivers both work with
SP4 if Etrust antivirus is NOT installed. My problem is an odd three way
interaction between SP4, the Nvidia driver, and Etrust antivirus.
