I have a Toshiba Tecra 9000 which came installed with
Windows 2000 Professional. Today I could not boot it.
Error is Missing/Corrupt file: \WINNT\SYSTEM32
\CONFIG\SYSTEMced. I followed instruction on MS support
with no avail.

QUESTION: If I decide to reinstall Windows 2000
Professional from teh CD; will it delete/erase omit all
previous documents, desktop icons, links on desktop, files
on "C" drive, etc?

A simple YES or NO will suffice for me to make the
decision.

Thank you so much.

Maybe, but the following options should preserve your data/profile while a
format install will not.

I would first try a repair installation [fast repair] and if that does not
work an upgrade installation and if that does not work reinstall into
existing \winnt folder WITHOUT formatting which will reinstall OS but
require you to reinstall all your applications on top of themselves and
extract data from or copy your old profile over to your new one. If you have
to reinstall you probably will lose access to any EFS encrypted files if you
do not have a backup of your EFS private key. An ugrade install or reinstall
will require you to apply service pack and critical updates which Irecommend
no more than five at a time and do not connect a fresh install to the
internet withou a firewall as users have been reporting worm infections in
less than ten minutes without a firewall. See links below. --- Steve
