There are several Microsoft documentations that state that there is a Weather
Gadget available. I've looked in the gallery but cannot find any. Has this
now been taken away? I've done a web search and found a few gadgets but I am
not comfortable installing since they could pose a security risk. Does
anyone have good recommendations for a library of gadgets for vista? The
ones on Vista and the website are a little lame. The stock ticker is good
but i wanted something for the home e.g. weather at my zip code. THe seattle
traffic monitor is good but I don't live in WA.

It disappeared in recent released builds. There were many problems with
it, so I don't know what the plans are for returning it.

We have additional gadgets coming in the next set of beta bits; I hope you
like them. It would also be great to see more folks outside of Microsoft
making cool gadgets.

Bruce, thanks for being an MSFT presence here on the boards...

Any idea when these "next beta bits" will be put up on the web? I have
sideshow disabled due to the lack of usefull(for me) gadgets.
Are there going to be a stream of them(like Yahoo/Konfabulator)? Weekly
additions(ala Google desktop), or at random times?

I second that. Thanks for your contributions.

Bruce, remember that this is the CPP ng, not TechBeta. Are you sure there
will be beta bits for the CPP folks? They are starting to salivate.

Be nice to see a good WMP controller like that one by the Skin Factory
from last year.

Colin gently reminded me that I posted this to the public newsgroup, not the
private beta newsgroup - so just to be clear, I have no idea if there will
be any more public bits released before RTM. If there aren't, then my
apologies for getting your hopes up.

We have a relatively small set of gadgets that will be "in the box" at RTM -
you've already seen most of them. We're going to use our site at
http://gallery.microsoft.com to share more gadgets, both 'official'
Microsoft gadgets and gadgets submitted by individuals both inside and
outside Microsoft.

I don't know if our plans include any particular release schedule for
web-downloads; I'm sure the folks who worry about that stuff will do what
they can to make it a pleasant and exciting experience. Personally, I'm
hoping we get a good group of gadget developers out in the world producing
cool gadgets.

www.bbc.co.uk

Got a weather gadget, had one for years, works in any browser, just
have to put your postcode in for a full local 5 day forecast on RSS
also if you wish.

Don't work for zip codes though 8-)

Seriously though when Vista is released I bet the beeb will be doing
gadgets for the UK market, they are good at that sort of thing.
