Do you mean the Microsoft Java VM?

I don't think Vista will support it. I hope it doesn't. The MS JVM is
hopelessly outdated, has had several serious flaws in the past that render
it horribly insecure, and I don't think MS are even attempting to support it
any more.

Is there any reason you can't use the SUN JVM? It isn't perfect, but it's
supported and actively being developed.

But on the other hand, the SUN JVM is horribly slow, has no comprehensive
security update functionality, leaves old code behind when you update, and
has to be completely reinstalled every time they do patch a security flaw.

The worst day for Java on web sites and for users was the day Microsoft told
Sun, "We give up."

Not sure that is the case nowadays. It used to be very bad, I agreee.

Indeed. I absolutely agree. When I say "It isn't perfect" that can cover a
multitude of sins.

Maybe things will improve now they've open sourced Java? The Microsoft JVM
had a lot of problems of its own, of course.

MSJVM installs and runs perfect in both 32 and 64 bit vista rtm.
many people have reported problems with the other java.

Thank you,

Microsoft will soon discontinue all support for the Microsoft Java Virtual
Machine, as a result of the Java Lawsuit Settlement with Sun Microsystems,
Just FYI. I strongly recommend that you use Sun's Microsystems Version of
Java Runtime Environment instead, Just FYI. See the following website for
more information: http://www.microsoft.com/mscorp/java and download Sun
Microsystems version of Java Runtime Environment (Sun JRE) from
http://www.java.com/ just FYI.

Oh, I know it still is. We have to have it on my computers at work and it's
still a dog even on a multiprocessor system. When I have to log onto a
network device or printer that uses a Java display console I always reach
for my Windows 2000 box with the Microsoft JVM installed.

Great to hear Mickey, thank you. I have MS JVM on disc so I will
use it when the time comes. I don't like Sun Java. Fonts look bad
on my machine compared to MS JVM. And it is slower.

Geo.

And thank you to all others who have responded to this thread.
You just didn't say what I wanted to hear. LOL

But Microsoft isn't providing any support for their VM anymore, are they?
Even security patches?

Dale

Sadly, they are not. It's probably time for those who need security in
their JVM to uninstall the Microsoft JVM and install the latest Sun JVM
instead. And that would be just about everyone.
