Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Error!

I've been using MM2 for about 4 months now. In that past
30 days, I've been frustrated by an absolute inability to
get the movies I create back to the digital camera for
dubbing to DVD. The error message is Microsoft Visual
C++ Runtime Library (x in circle) Runtime Error!

Does anyone know a layman's fix for this. I've tried
reinstalling everything to no avail. Using Windows XP P3
2.66 Gb with 1Gb Ram and all available updates for
Windows and MM2. Initially, I thought it was program
length, but I've cut things way down and still had the
same result: 20% completed saving and then stalls out.
When I close, I get the aforementioned error message
with "Program: C:\Program Files\Movie Maker\moviemk.exe
R6025-Pure Virtual Function Call

Thanks in advance!
Bob

Bob,

Try saving it to your hard drive as a DV-AVI file and then using WinDV to
copy it to your camcorder. There's a link to the utility on the Digital
Camcorders > Intro page of my website.

If it's a memory/virtual memory issue, it'll effect your saving it to the
hard drive.

Dear Papa John,

Thank you for your speedy response! I followed your
advice and am sorry to report the same error followed the
procedural change. FYI, I have successfully saved to the
hard drive, using a different setting: 'Best for playback
on my computer' and then burned a video CD at a lower
quality.

Any direction from here is appreciated!
Bob

PapaJohn,

I've just made that attempt, to the same outcome. You
said "Import", but I would call that 'open project' when
you bring a WMV file back into the timeline. In other
words, before saving it to a Movie format, it was still
in its segregated elements of video, transitions, audio
and narration/music. Am I misunderstanding your
question, or did I 'import/open project' correctly before
choosing to Save Movie as a DV-AVI file? When attempting
to 'Import a file into Collections', I get an error that
the format of the file is invalid or the file is corrupt.

Bob

Hi Bob,

No, I meant to use the saved WMV file you made in the 'best quality' choice.
It's not 'open project' which is the one you made from all the clips....
it's a File > Import into Collections > using the WMV file you made.... with
no auto clip creation.

It'll be one big clip in a new collection.... to put on a blank project
timeline and save as a DV-AVI file this time.... to see what happens and try
to figure out your issue.

I did a 'wild card' search using *.wmv and as expected (freezes at 18-20% previously), the only files to come back within the last 30 days were from last Friday, when I shot 3 minutes of video at our construction site and cut it down to about 2:28.

Following your suggestion above, I have successfully saved it back to my computer and to my Panasonic GS70 camera, but in both cases the video was sticky or shaky and the audio cuts in and out. I consider this progress that a very short movie can be saved, but would be more encouraged if the video and audio were stable. Also, an indication of progress, there was no error message upon closing MM2 after each somewhat successful save, thanks

What does this tell you

Bob,

Well, it could be as simple as your hard drive being in serious need of a
tuneup.... free space and defragging.

It it's not that, then something more basic to your system than Movie
Maker....

Since my last post, I attempted to save a 9.5 minute project to no avail. It only got to 9% before freezing. And, I have recently freed up over 50 Gb of drive space including a successful defrag about a week ago. I think we may have exhausted this subject, but I do appreciate all of your suggestions!

Happy editing

Good luck with your efforts.... if you want to explore it further, I have a
Problem Solving > Can't Save a Movie page on my website devoted to the
topic.
