Can anyone help me to remember the name of this one
Microsoft utility that optimizes the startup of XP? I
remember downloading it from Microsoft about 6 months ago,
but for some reason, I am unable to find it any longer.

Hi Andrew,

I think you are talking about "BOOTVIS". But as far as I knew; about 2
months later it came out that Bootvis has nothing to do with tuning up your
starts. It is/was some sort of tool for Microsoft.
Maybe someone else could be more specific about it. I tried the Bootvis too,
but it didn't appear at any rate to speed up my start ups.

Good luck in your search

You may be referring to bootvis, which was withdrawn by Microsoft partly
because it was being incorrectly used. For example, its purpose was not to
optimize the startup of Windows XP.

That's not to say that you can't optimize the way Windows XP starts. You
certainly can, and the way to do it is to see what other programs start with
Windows and then decide whether you really need them to start with Windows.

You can also reconsider the processes that start with Windows, but don't
expect that to speed your startup in a way that you'll notice. The best
reason to reconsider a process is to tighten up your online security.
