Ok, here is some weird stuff. I have a Microsoft USB
Optical mouse. I recently got a new computer with XP Home
Edition on it. I completly updated all the software, SP1
already came installed. I upgraded to XP Professional.
Mouse worked fine after the upgrade. I then proceeded to
install SP1 and after restarting, Windows refuses to
acknowledge the mouse. The red light does not turn on,
the one underneath the mouse. There is a brief flash of
red whenever I plug the mouse into any of the USB ports,
but then it goes dim. What can I possibly do? I have
already installed the Intellipoint software that came
with the mouse.

try the mouse on a different computer or a different mouse on your computer

That will tell you where the problem is.

If the mouse is bad Microsoft is really good about replacing bad mice!

I have tried using my mouse on another computer, it
works. I have tried using another USB mouse on my
computer it does not work.

Sounds as though you need some driver updates. When you moved to SP1, it
changed the environment. Any time you do that you should always check for
updated drivers for your devices.
