L Leonard Grey Oct 19, 2009 #2 Microsoft Update uses ActiveX controls, which other browsers do not support. You can get updates in Firefox with the IE Tab add-on, which loads the IE rendering engine into Firefox. So it's still Internet Explorer that's getting the updates.
