Microsoft Update Site

When I used to use the MS Update site it would have two boxes for
"Critical Updates" & "Custom" in the right hand pane and in the left
it would show under "Select by Type" High Priority,Software Optional
and Hardware Optional and Under "Options" where you could review your
history and a couple other selections.

I recently clicked on a MS Update link someone posted here and it
asked if I wanted to install "Active X" control and I clicked on yes.

Now when I go to the MS Update site there is another section in the
left pane of "Select by Product" with office updates. CAPICOM, Windows
XP, Silverlight updates along with some others which was not there
before.

It always lists all the Office (Which is not even on my system)
updates under critical updates npw even though I checked the little
box to not show them again.

Is there someway to get the undate site I go to to show the way it
used to without all the Office and other updates??

TIA

When you first go to the Microsoft Update site you should see a number of
entries under Options in the left hand column. Click on Change Settings. In
the right hand pane, scroll to the bottom and put a check mark in the box
next to "Disable Microsoft Update software and let me use Windows Update
only". Hit the Apply changes now" button. Answer Yes when asked if you want
to disable Microsoft Update. Go to the Window Update site. You should no
longer be offered updates for products other than Windows.

If this doesn't solve you problem you might want to post this question to
the microsoft.public.windowsupdate newsgroup.

If you're looking for more information concerning your issue I'd suggest you
do a Google search for an explanation of the difference between Microsoft
Update and Windows Update.

Good luck

kraut,
Do you have MS Works installed on your PC? In a lot of cases, it came
pre-installed by the PC manufacturer. The MS Office updates also are used to
update components of MS Works, especially security type updates.
