Hi Andrew,
thank you very much for your fast answer, i've followed your suggestion but
the problem still remain.

I'd like to repeat that the service that didn't start is not "Windows
Installer" but the "Windows Service Pack Installer update service".

Thanks

Hi Snake,
Try to reregister the Update Engine again by opening the * Run * command and
type:
regsvr32 wuapi.dll click [OK] after each command
regsvr32 atl.dll
regsvr32 wuctui.dll
regsvr32 wups2.dll *Note the space between
regsvr32_w in all*
regsvr32 wups.dll
regsvr32 inetcomm.dll
regsvr32 wuweb.dll
regsvr32 wuaueng.dll

Also try to assign the update URL in the trusted sites under both Security
and Privacy Tabs on IE Properties windw.
Reboot your machine and see.
HTH.
Please report back your result.

Hi nass,
ok i've executed all the command but this two was not successfull:

regsvr32 wuctui.dll, LoadLibrary("wuctui.dll") failed - The specified module
could not be found

regsvr32_w in all* maybe wrong syntax

Anyway after i've executed all the command i've rebooted the pc but the
problem still occur.

Also for security setting in IE no effect, but anyway the problem is not in
IE but in the service that didn't start.

Thanks a lot

I have a different problem. When trying to update windows xp sp2 I get this
error"\

-- Network policy settings prevent you from using this website to get
updates for your computer.

If you believe you have received this message in error, please contact your
system administrator.
Read more about steps you can take to resolve this problem (error number
0x8DDD0003) yourself.

The error number has a blank page.

Any suggestions?
