Microsoft announced this afternoon that there would be an early release
of the fix for the WMF bug. The release will be today in response to "
strong customer sentiment." That's the kind of feedback one might
expect from a Lynch mob!

I prefer to let Automatic Updates install these types of files
(mostly to make sure its working), but this exploit is so serious I went to
Microsoft Updates and installed it manually. If I had let Automatic Updates
do the job, I would have had to wait until Friday or Saturday.

I agree. There is no time like the present. In particular when one
doesn't know what exploits the future brings.

Not sure what you meant, I clicked help/support and the check for updates.
Should do same thing as waiting for automatic.

I did mine last night when I read the notices for the Microsoft patch, I'm
in the UK, I went to MU and did it manually but as my husband had shut his
machine down for the night was going to do it this morning but the shield
notice for it came in and the patch downloaded and installed with no
problem.
My machines are set to notify but not install.

On my computer, it takes Automatic Updates 3-5 days after a critical
update is posted to be downloaded and installed on my computer.

Amazingly, my auto update icon appeared this morning to deliver my patch.
WTG Microsoft.
