First attempt to use this program so I tried the update and it just kept
telling that there wasn't an internet connection???? I know there is, the
only way I could get it to update was to use this forum which also couldn't
find an internet connection but asked me to press connect button which I did
and lo and behold leaving the forum open and retrying update allowed it to
work. What the heck is going on ? My other update programs work O.K. Why
doesn't Microsoft's? My browser is Firefox , could it be that Microsoft don't
like that?

If Outlook Express, or Internet Explorer, are set to "work offline" (as they
might be if you are using an alternative browser)--you'll get that message.
It also arises from any other break in connectivity--software firewall,
servers down perhaps--not sure all the possibilities.

Running all functions online and receive the same error. I thinkk this may
looking into a bit futher. I use AVG Pro and Zone Alarm Pro as my antivirus
and firewall. I will check my laptop and see what it does.

I am also having a similar difficulty. I run AVG Pro as anti-virus and Zone
Alarm firewall. On checking for MS Antispyware updates, I am informed I am
not connected. However, I know I am, as I connnect to other web-sites. A
speed test shows that my connection speed is very good too.

I also have the same problem, but use Spydoctor and AVG. This problem has
only come about since updating the latest version software and def's 5783.
Don't know if it has something to do with AVG blocking Ms AntiSpyware if it
has changed files for accessing the net or if AVG's latest updates have
caused the block?

I now believe it's all down to not using I.E. By using I.E. it actually
allows tracking cookies etc. to invade your system which kind of defeats the
purpose of spy & ad ware protection ,I've removed this microsoft
protection!!!! from my system.

The firewall is the most likely issue--see whether you can turn it off for a
test.

i just noticed this today when working on someone's computer. then back home
on two of my own. something is weird in MS land. Nothing to do with
anti-virus or firefox.

jusst my opinion.

Switched off Zone Alarm Pro and tried to run MSAS update but received same
message ' NOT CONNECTED TO INTERNET'. Back to you. BTW laptop shows same
symptoms.

Server was down. It seems to be fixed.

5783 is the latest anyway.
