I just turned on my computer and got a black screen and a small box in the
corner that says "You may be a victim of software counterfittinf. this copy
of Windows did not pass genuine Windows validation" it has a blue star with
one orange corner. I have had XP on my computer, I do own XP. I can stilll
get online, but I can't remove this box.

Your system failed WGA.

The dialog should have directions for contacting MS to resolve the problem.
Follow them.

As well, look here:
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/916247

And run the diagnostics. Look particularly at the lines starting with
"Validation Status" and "Windows License Type".

It is possible that you've received a counterfeit version of XP (and it's
also possible that WGA is misreporting your version).
