I am currently running Windows XP. I recently purchased
(Sept. 26th '03) subject item and when attempting to
install the software I get the following message: "A
limitation exists with your computer's resources or
configuration. Setup cannot instal SideWinder Game
Controller Software on your current operating system."
The system requirements listed on the container only goes
to Windows 98 and does not mention Windows XP. Is this
installation software up to date? Do I need an upgrade
to this installation software? I bought this system for
I and my grandchildren's enjoyment and am a little
disappointed that I can't get it to run. Thanks for your
time and effort in helping me to resolve this problem.

Mel, if you've got a USB controller and the version 4.x software, go ahead
and install the software. There may be a warning message about
incompatibility with Windows 2000, but it is okay on XP. If you're having a
different issue, please post back with details.

Make sure you've visited Windows Update, downloaded ALL the security fixes
and have updated your system to SP1 for XP also.

Mel:

I'm having similar problems. I upgraded my computer and
changed OS from WIN98SE to WINxp. I play a lot of flight
simulator games but now my FS2002 does not detect my MS
Force Feedback Pro. In the Options section, the "enable
joystick" is not highlighted. In the Control Panel
however, the Device Manager listed the joystick as
operating properly. The joystick works well with my other
flight simulation games such as Combat Flight Simulators
One and Three, Flight Simulator 2000, Strike Fighter, IL2,
etc. I hope we both get answers to our questions.

Hi Don,

I read in Katy P.'s FAQ that after you install FS 2004, you
need to return to control panel and update the drivers for
the joystick using the Autodetect feature. I suppose that it's
possible that the game ships with improved drivers for that
device and that they're automatically detected as such by XP.

Is it a USB or GamePort model? Here's the instructions for both:

The version 4 software for USB Sidewinders is XP compatible.
It gives you a warning, you can click OK and continue installing it.
I've had the same experiences with USB cam's & other devices.

Plug it in, click Start / Control Panel /click Game Controllers
Click Add... / Select Microsoft Sidewinder Auto Detect / OK / OK.

ThanksJimmy:

I'm connected to a gameport in my audio card (Creative SB
Audigy). My problem is with compatability between FS2002
and the MS Forece Feedback Pro. My other games such as
CFS, CFS3, FS2000, Strike Fighter, and IL2 works very
well. My Sidewinder Game Controller Software is Version 3.
When I try to reload it I get this warning that it is
imcompatible with XP. But why is the problem with FS2002
only and not the other games, some newer and some older
than FS2002.

Don Soriano

Don, you cannot load the version 3.x Sidewinder software on Windows XP
because it is written in a format (vxd) which is not supported. Just go
into Control Panel/Game Controllers, select Microsoft SideWinder (Auto
Detect) and the system will install the proper drivers for you.
