Microsoft should give support no matter what the circumstances.

I was using a data export tool from another website to upload data into Excel
2003 Spreadsheets. Everything was going fine and then I got an error message,
and the spreadsheet would not open. The message said to let Microsoft know
about this problem and gave the option to send a report, which I did. When I
called Microsoft to get tech support on this, I was told that Microsoft does
not give support on "trial period" software. I was told where to look on
Microsoft's website for the solution, but did not find what I needed. On the
website it also states that if the software was pre-loaded by the
manufacturer, to contact them. Well I contacted the manufacturer and was told
to call Microsoft. I am still having the problem. I feel that Microsoft
should provide tech support, after all it is their product.

Perhaps if you posted the issue here we may be able to help?

A couple of things to note however. The reason OEM software is supported by
the computer vendor is they want a huge reduction on the licence fee on the
basis of providing support for that product themselves. Trial software
seldom comes with support from any vendor as they have received no revenue
to provide this. Finally, I suspect the software you have loaded is
interfering with Excel, perhaps you should look for support
from them also

I did post the issue, I sent two or three "send message to Microsoft". I did
find out that the website I was downloading from was having some trouble, and
I had no way of finding that out over the weekend as they are not open. But
this does not change my opinion that a company as huge as Microsoft should
give support on all of their products. I guess in the end it is all about
money, not good customer service. I still may need support from Microsoft
even after the website fixes their problem, but I guess I won't get the
support.
Frustrated

surly it is in microsofts intrests to give suppoert,, after all if you are
unsatisfied with the test product your unlikly to go to the full version

That of course is true, but there is always a finacial balance as many
people never have that upgrade but simply jump from trial to trial. I stick
with my initial premise that the fault is probably caused by another
application running alongside Excel and therefore that can be equally to
blame.

It is frustrating when work cannot be done, but pointing out that MS is a
big Company surely only means there issues are larger too. An old boss once
told me "Big Companies can go bust too...they just make a bigger bang" ;-)
