Microsoft Security Essential Install

Installed the Beta yesterday on one XP SP3 machine after removing Avast and
Windows Defender. The install went smoothly and uneventfully, am not showing
any problems with operation of the new program.

I do notice that Mem Usage for MsMPEng.exe is running at about 50,560K and
seems to slow the load time of IE 8, boosting CPU usage to the max limit
until it settles down to about 12% at idle.

Anyone else have a comment?

Dave, thank you for your rapid reply, and I agree that something is idling a
little high. I dearly love AVAST as it has saved my machines for quite a
number of years, so I was very reluctant to try this new MS program...almost
walked into the office this morning and put everything back where it was
before installing the Security Essentials...I might still do that before the
week is out. Thank you for your suggestion! I'll let you know what happens
in running aswClear.exe.

Hi Dave, I used aswClear.exe in SAFE MODE and all went fine. (It was a lot
quicker than I had suspected!)

Nonetheless, I am still idling at 12-20% with MsMpEng.exe using 54,180 K of
Mem. Still seems high with virtually no change to overall performance.
Friday may come sooner than I first thought!

Thanks again for your help and suggestions!

I couldn't take it anymore...I went back to AVAST (GREAT!) and WD (Very
Good) --there were noticeable slowdowns on my machine and quirky behavior
upon saving savings that I'd like to see resolved before I run MSE again. It
will probably be terrific, but not quite ready to come out of beta in my
uneducated opinion.
