A: We're continuing development of Windows Defender (formerly Windows
AntiSpyware) beta 2 for Windows XP and building it into Windows Vista. It
will appear in the next Windows Vista CTP build. We expect the XP beta 2
version in the first half of 2006. You can follow progress on the new
antimalware blog at <http://blogs.technet.com/antimalware/>;.

NP Bill :)
Q: [36] Will the BETA schedule for Windows Defender for Windows XP and
Windows Vista be on a different path? Speculation has been going around that
December 31, will be BETA 2 for Windows Defender on XP, is this true?

A: Windows Defender Beta 2 for XP is currently scheduled for 1HCY06.
However, as previously announced, Windows Defender will start appearing in
future public Windows Vista releases.

When you are speaking in public about future plans of a large public
corporation, you have to speak very carefully and precisely.

I haven't read the transcript that I have of most of the chat to see if
anybody brought up cookies--I suspect they didn't.

He's given us some clear information--and that's a good thing. I'm
disappointed at the pace--is this the longest beta program for a Microsoft
product of similar scope?--but I'm glad to have the information out there
clearly.
