I just installed Critical Update for Office XP on Windows XP Service Pack 2
(KB885884) and Microsoft .NET Framework 1.1 Service Pack 1. They were both
installed after a fresh reboot. The reboot was performed immediately after
installing MS Visual Studio 2003 and the Visual Studio MSDN Library.
On the reboot after installing the updates, I received an error from the MS
Installer that was attempting to install some MSI file that appears to be
related to Norton Anti Virus 2005. I have NAV 2005 installed and it had
previously never given me any indications of a problem. The error text is:
Norton Anti Virus 2005 does not support the Repair feature, please uninstall
and re-install.. I also receive this message 2 or 3 times every time I open
any Word, Excel, Access, or PowerPoint file. This error does not occur when
opening Outlook files.
I had this problem with an old install of XP and Office XP also, but I did
not know what was causing the error. This is now happening on a fresh install
of XP and Office 2003 with all SPs and updates installed. I do not want to go
through another install of everything again.
Finally, my question: Is there any way to uninstall KB885884 or is there
some other patch that will get rid of this error?
Thanks,
