microsoft put out a message that said it has a error and will be shutting downdo

Every time i try to get help to download something about
microsoft it freezes up and put out that message. What can
I do? Also it take my computer a long time to shut down
 
be more specific. what exactly does the error message say? also, do you
have a firewal? virus scanner?? is it up to date?
