hi....as a matter of fact...I watch here ....and comp.publish.prepress.
Publisher is not a pro tool...and I haven't handled it in years. But I can
tell you a couple of general things....first of all...that isn't normal. No
way would anyone buy a piece of software that did that. The 6 meg file...is
that also a jpg? Are you saving as? Or is that the size of the native format
file in Publisher? Assuming the latter...because the former is too
easy...you would have figured it out...The added amount that Publisher ads
over the size of the jpg is very modest. unless....does Publisher embed the
jpg? or does it put in a thumbnail and refer to the original file...the
later is how high end layout programs like Quark and InDesign do it. I
wonder if there is a way to adjust the size of the thumbnail....maybe that
got messed up.
Anyway...come over to comp.publish.prepress and let us all have a go at it.

Running XP Pro. When pasting small .jpg images (file is a logo created on
Apple mac but retains 44kb size as .jpg on XP)into a Publisher file the file
size increases from approx 33kb to an incredible 6Meg. We are completely
baffled! Seems to be the conversion in Publisher that whacks the size up??
