What does usenet have to do with the Microsoft.Public.Access newsgroup. I
ask because I went to Jeff Conrad's web site and he said the following:

" The information on Access I have accumulated on these pages comes from my
own personal experiences as well as reviewing posts on the Usenet newsgroup
microsoft.public.access.

I clicked on the link and was taken to Outlook Express and this site was
added to my news groups. I am familiar with newsgroups using Outlook
express, but do not understand the connection to UseNet. Isn't UseNet a
paid for site where you connect to other users with similar interests?

Well, not exactly.

UseNet is a generic term referring to the system of distributing &
contributing posts. You may pay or not pay for access but it's out
there, and isn't really adminstered by single entity.

In a sense, it's much like internet. You may have to pay for access to
internet but nobody owns internet as a whole; it's many many sites
interconnected. Same with the usenet, only that instead of a website, we
have a newsgroup, and they may be hosted on several different hosts that
isn't owned by same group of owners.

HTH.
