Microsoft PLEASE respond this is driving me mad!!!

I have re-installed Windows Vista Home Premium now about 6 times trying to
resolve an issue which is: -

After a while my vista control panel, welcome centre & vista games will not
open. It probably includes other applications as well.

I know this is a general problem because i have heard other users with the
same problem.

I have a nvidia chipset mobo.

Even if you are aware of the problem & are trying to develop a fix then let
me know so at least I can put my mind at rest knowing it's not something i am
doing wrong or please advise on what i should do.
 
If you are hoping to get a response directly from Microsoft...you're in the
wrong place. Actual MS employees show up occasionally but it's on their own
time. You can either wait for someone to help with a specific problem
(you'll need to provide more detail first) or you should contact Microsoft
directly. I'm sure their number is listed on their web site.

I also had this kind of problem. When I double-clicked on the Control Panel
shortcut icon on the desktop, I got a quick flash, then nothing. I couldn't
get Aero to come up (it reverted back to Basic) and a few other things
wouldn't come up -- like some games. Most other things worked great, like
IE 7, mail, other programs. I found that my old flash drive was the
problem, amazingly! The hardware glitch it caused messed with some registry
settings, etc., etc. After I removed it, Vista has been running smoothly
for the last 5 days. Fingers crossed.

What you SHOULD do is look in your Events listings and note your Errors and
Warnings, and see which of them identifies your problem. Some errors and
warnings are not serious, like the Tcpip and Dhcp warnings. But I'll bet
you'll find at least one other that will stand out. That will not give you
a clear message as to your exact problem, but it may help.

Of course, to get to the Events listings you'll have to get through the
Control Panel! Good luck. You can, however, get to the Events listings
without actually opening the Control Panel. I'm not exactly sure how right
now, but it's not that hard.

Keep in touch with your problem/solution. I want to follow you on this.

In addition to my previous reply, check to see if you have any "User Profile
Service" errors or warnings in the Event Viewer. If so, you definitely have
a problem there! Double click the error and read the details.

I am re-installing again later so i'll let you know how I get on.

Are you using nvidia drivers at all or have your hard drive(s) in a raid
array?
 
Questions....what exact hardware are you installing this on? Do you test
that Vista install first, or do you start loading it up with apps? Which
apps? Which drivers do you load after the initial install?

My bet is that an app is dinking with things it shouldn't...

Yeah, plz keep me posted. FYI, mine is a stock Dell XPS 410 w/ nVidia
GeForce 7300LE graphics. One hard drive, and there is something in the
innards about RAID 0 -- for whatever that's worth...

Today is day 6, and the Dell is running flawlessly. I keep checking the
Events Viewer every day (to set a baseline) and I find nothing out of the
ordinary, except for the usual dhcp and tcpip warnings. No major "User
Profile Service" warnings that were there when the Dell was grunge.
