PIP Platinum 2001...Still Cannot Open Program....
Hello John,
I've found your postings across the web regarding graphics filter problems with PIP. I was encouraged as the articles and suggestions posted were followed up with "It worked!". Alas, I'm not one of these lucky persons, please help.
I own PIP Platinum 2001. I have successfully installed the program multiple times on upgraded/replacment PCs including a laptop, and due to relocation. This includes PCs with Windows XP.
I tried basically 3 methods to alleviate the problem, "unable to open PIP Platinum 2001 due to 'gif graphics filter is missing'", using articles you've linked to: "PIP 2001: How to Troubleshoot Graphic Filter Issues", "PIP: Problem OPening or Saving Graphic Files" and "PIP2001: Error Message: <Program> Cannot Load the Preview Picture". I've also attempted to change only the gifimp32.flt to .old as you recommended. None of these work.
I'm not sure where to start describing as to what may be different about this HP PC from the other PCs I've successfully installed and used PIP Platinum 2001 (including an HP laptop). Nearly all the PCs have the same version of Office on them including this HP PC. I may have read a post somewhere on the web about an incompatibility with some Kodak software. The only PC (HP laptop) with Kodak software (easyshare) presents no incompatabilities. I believe that all other photo programs on all the PCs are the same.
The only differences I can think of are:
1) This one PC has Windows XP Professional 2002 service pack 2 and the others have Windows XP Home edition 2002 service pack 2;
2) We at one time tried to create a network using Office 2000 NT on a D: drive as a separate "platform" (?). The PIP software worked fine here and the PIP has since been removed using "remove programs". I changed all the flts and dlls recommended on this drive at one point during the attempted resolutions (based on the articles mentioned above). I later removed the PIP program, and I still can't open PIP in the regular C: drive "platform" under the Windows XP Pro.
I don't know if going through these motions (the actions recommended in the 3 articles) again will help. If you have any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate it. I really want to be able to work with this program.
