Try changing the OE shortcut Target to -

"C:\Program Files\Outlook Express\msimn.exe" /outnews

That sort of uses OE as your mail program via Outlook.

MS Outlook has no connection with WinXP, the o/s, it is a seperate app,
installed as a standalone or with the MS Office suite

Edward,
simply go to CONTROL PANEL, ADD/REMOVE , remove
OUTLOOKEXPRESS

OUTLOOK and it will install MS O/L

if this doesnt help, go to www.microsoft.com and download
it MS OUTLOOK , no charge

It would help if you stated which version of Outlook your have.

If your Office or Outlook installation is not current with updates, go to:
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx . If I recall current
only Office 2000/Outlook 2000 or later are supported.

If the above does not fix problem, try one of the following {they all do the
same thing}:

If you have a recent version of Office installed, open any Office
application go to Help and run Detect and Repair.
In Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, select Office or Outlook. Chick
on Change/Remove and select repair current installation {or similar wording
in prior versions}.
Insert your Office or Outlook CD. It should auto-start and offer you
several options. Select the repair option.

In Internet Options, Programs tab ensure that you have Outlook selected as
your email program.

If none of the above works, try an Outlook newsgroup.

Hi Edward,

You can do a repair of your Office installation by going to Control
Panel > Add/Remove programs > Microsoft office, clicking on change.

Or visit the experts in the Outlook group:
