Microsoft Outlook - Receive Phantom messages

Hi,
Often I press send and Receive with Microsoft outlook 2003 and I can see I
have an e-mail message being downloaded typically between 18 and 150 kb, I
wait for the message to come down and the send receive completes but nothing
arrives in my Inbox, Delete Items etc - what are these e-mails are they
downloading information from me??

Might you be requesting read receipts when you send e-mails?

Have you used the webmail interface to your account to see if there are
e-mails listed in your Inbox folder?

Are you using POP, IMAP, HTTP/Deltasync (via Outlook Connector add-on), or
Exchange to retrieve e-mails?
