Microsoft Outlook 2003/Windows Service Pack 3

I recently installed Windows Service Pack 3 and Microsoft Office 2003 on a
computer and now all of this persons emails are showing up as plain text.

I found the option in Outlook 2003 that says "Read all standard mail in
plain text" but it was NOT checked and even if I check the option, exit
Outlook, open Outlook, uncheck the option, close Outlook and then reopen
Outlook it still will not allow me to view HTML emails as HTML.

I also noticed this happening on another machine that I installed Windows XP
Service Pack 3 but DID NOT upgrdate Microsoft Office and Outlook XP is doing
the same thing on that machine.

Is there a registry hack that I can use to get this working again as it is
supposed to be??

Here is the situation.

Microsoft Office 2003 (from Microsoft Office XP). We are currently using
Windows 2000 Small Business Server (including Microsoft Exchange 2000).

Computer 1: Installed SP3 only. Installed updates to Windows. User can no
longer view HTML messages in Outlook XP.

Computer 2: Installed SP3. Installed Office 2003. Installed updates to
Windows and Office. User can no longer view HTML messages in Outlook 2003.

NOTE: If I logon to computer 2 I can view the messages as HTML.

Computer 3: Formatted an existing computer and reinstalled Windows XP
Professional. DID NOT INSTALL SP3. Installed Office 2003. Installed updates
to Windows and Office. If I logon to this computer, I can view HTML messages.
If the user from Computer 2 logs onto this computer she can NOT view HTML.

So now I'm not so sure that it is an issue with SP3, but with the users
profile on the network.

Any suggestions?

if only 1 person is affected and is affected on all computers she tries, the
problem is with the profile. if it works on some but not other computers or
if it fails for everyone using a specific computer, it’s the computeer.

if a new profile in outlook doesn't fix it, yes. Just make sure you backup
her mail.

Somehow, Outlook is working fine now. I'm wondering if Microsoft sent out a
patch for this because I've seen a lot of this same problem in other groups.
