I have loaded MS XP with Service pack 2 for ME. The install went great. I
have a question regarding MS Office. I did not upgrade to Office XP. When I
run any MS Office product Xp attempts to upgrade to Office XP and I have to
wait for it to find out it cannot load as the CD is not present. It then
backs out and will allow me to run any of the the MS office application I
attempted to run. I have run the compatibility software and this did not
change anything. I would like to know if anyone ones how to get XP to accept
the MS Office currently loaded (i.e. MS Word 2002) without XP attempting to
load XP.

Thx
Tracy

Sometimes computer mfg provide trial versions of office. See if you have two versions installed. Else try Help menu - Detect and Repair

"For ME"? A typo?

Note two things:

1. Office 2002 and Office XP is the same product--just two names for the
same thing.

2. Office XP and Windows XP have nothing to do with each other. Don't be
misled by their both using the same name "XP." Windows XP can run Office 95,
97, 2000, 2002 (XP) or 2003 (the current version).

It's probably not trying to upgrade *to* Office XP, but to a later version
(service pack) of it, since you already have it.

If you performed an in-place upgrade from an earlier edition of
Windows, and Office was already installed, you'll likely have to repair
or reinstall it, so it can add the necessary additional functions needed
for use on a multi-user OS. It may be sufficient to simply insert the
respective installation CD and select the "Detect and Repair" option.
