I am attempting to set up a microphone on my new computer that was
loaded with Windows XP. I am directed to activate speech recognition
by going to ADD/REMOVE programs and selecting CHANGE in Microsoft
Office XP. This program was not loaded when I first started the
computer and it installed all the softwear for the first time. How
can I now get this to load?

Thanks
Dave

I assume that you now have Office installed. If so, in Add/Remove programs,
when you select Office and click on Change you will get another window. On
of the options on this window is to Add or Remove Features. Using this
option, you can go through Office options and find speech recognition.
Select it an then select Run from My Computer.

If you do not have Office installed, you must first do so.

Dave, did Office come with the computer? It sounds like it did. Did the
manufacturer give you an Office CD?

If yes, you will find Office in the Add/Remove Programs list and can follow
the directions as printed. You will get a setup screen asking if you want
to repair, change or remove the Office XP setup. Select Change. Select the
Voice Recognition items. Click OK. Insert the Office CD when prompted.

If you did not receive an Office XP CD, you'll need to call the PC
manufacturer and ask them how you are supposed to add/remove Office
components and ask how you are supposed to repair or reinstall Office if it
needs it. They should provide you with a CD (and a product key!) for extra
software like this.

Don,

Actually I still need to have Office installed (I was under the
impression that it was suppose to install when I started the computer
for the first time. I do not know how to make it install now (if it
did not when the other programs were installed.)

Ready made PC's with XP preinstalled come with bundled software. These
extra software titles are *in addition* to the basic operating system.
There should be a stack of CDs included in the PC package or at least one
marked "Applications." These usually include an Office suite. Sometimes its
Office or MS Works (usually a version that includes MS Word) but it could
be an Office suite from another software vendor too.

In addition to extra CDs there should be a piece of paper (or two or three)
with installation keys or codes for any supplied program that needs them.
