I recently upgraded to Windows xp from Windows 98. Everything is fine but lately I have noted that everytime I do a search my computer tries to load Microsoft Office 2000

The situation occurs when I select "Files and Folders" to begin the search. I can stop it by successively clicking cancel on the pop up menus

I have two questions

1. Is this some kind of fluke that if I let it continue it will corrupt the XP syste

2. If so, How do I delete whatever is causing the automatic activation of this down load.

You could try to determine the cause of the error message by opening
Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc), looking in the Application Log for
Source: MsiInstaller - Warning Messages (Event numbers 1001 and 1004),
double-clicking the Event and reading the Description.

And if you need more details, you can set Windows Installer Logging to
verbose. For more information see the following Microsoft Knowledge
Base article:

KB314852 - How to Enable Windows Installer Logging in Windows XP
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?Product=winxp&scid=kb;en-us;314852

BTW, since Windows Installer might be trying to repair missing
registry information you may just want to pop in the CD you used to
install Office and let it do its job.

And if the above does not help I suggest that you post your question
in the following newsgroup and please the exact error message and any
relevant information found in Event Viewer (eventvwr.msc). Note: To
copy the details of an event click the Copy button, then paste it in
your newsgroup post.
